ABCs Of Your Career Journey

 When we look back on our lives, do you find yourself regretting that you did not come as far in your career journey as you had hoped to by now? You can convince yourself that there were external factors that hindered your journey but how many times can we play victim and not just accept that we are the problem? How do we stop procrastinating and instead become more proactive? What motivates some while others can barely get through the day? The key thing is motivation. To start, we have to reflect on the " why". Why are we so determined to travel down the path a certain way when there may be other options? Why are we even considering this goal now? Why is this goal even relevant and important in my life now? Why do we feel compelled to continue when maybe we should just stop trying? The issue is that we may have regrets if we don't achieve this goal or follow a certain route. Regret can be a very powerful emotion and can make us feel we missed out on a better opportunity...

ABCs Of Your Career Journey

 When we reach the end of a journey, some people feel very Zen-like and calm while others are full of excitement. The latter group is already planning their next big event even before they finish the last few moments of the current one they are experiencing. I want to suggest that for once try to do something different; in other words savor the last bits of the current journey. Ask yourself - What have I learned during this time? What would I have done differently? What do I wish I had done more of? Was it even worth it? Once you evaluate your experience, write it down in a journal. Not only answer the questions above but also determine exactly how you felt along the way. What triggered happiness, sadness, frustration, and possibly even anger as you navigated your way through different paths? Were there certain people who brought these emotions out in you or was it something you read, watched, or experienced? How did you power through when you felt very drained and/or how did yo...

The Balancing Act of Entrepreneurship

 Having been self-employed since 1992, I've learned a lot about the balancing act that comes with running a business. Entrepreneurs have to make choices as to what is practical and what takes precedence. We have to prioritize and when we choose something, we have to be willing to make the sacrifices to make that new task happen. It doesn't take long before new entrepreneurs discover that some activities are very time sensitive. Sometimes it feels like the pressure is on and the emotional pain and stress arise when we have to let something go in order to accomplish what has to be done. We are constantly balancing the business with what we want to accomplish in life-events and home-chores. We also have to train people so they understand that they cannot drop by just because they know you are home. We might have to make signs and post office hours in order to drive the point home.
